Hamilton on pole in Japan; Massa stumbles

Lewis Hamilton dug deep in Japan to plant his McLaren-Mercedes in pole position for Sunday's decisive race under Mount Fuji, while his chief championship rival Felipe Massa could only muster fifth. For most of the final session it appeared to be advantage Ferrari with a rejuvenated Kimi Raikkonen setting a searing pace around the Fuji International
