The Greatest Ever Song Lyrics in your humble opinion...

So. What music lyrics have affected you? Have really made you think of a certain situation? Have helped you through tough times or you just like it because you do?
Recently been listening to Kansas.
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more.
Even though my dad isn't my son, this fits, I don't know why it just does.
Another song I like is by Econoline Crush called Sparkle and Shine.
You don't know me
You know you never will
Can't see inside me
Lost out on the thrill
Killed by ambition
Sacrificed for fame
One more time
One last time
Sparkle and Shine
And the last one for today. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
Purple Haze all in my eyes
Don't know if its day or night
You got me blowin' blowin' my mind
Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time?
Plenty more tomorrow. But please, lets see yours! Music unites us, so lets share!

Right now I have two songs in my head..
November rain. Guns N Roses
Just the way you are. Barry White
Quiet one:
"I have officially addded you to my enemies list, along with Schumacher, Todt, Ecclestone, Bill Gates and that annoying biker frog."

Warren Zevon provides a classical-like introduction to Play It All Night Long before hitting you between the eyes with the opening verse:
"Grandpa p**sed his pants again
He don't give a damn.
Brother Billy has both guns drawn
He ain't been right since Vietnam..."
Perfect segue into Tom Waits who juggles the poetic and the profane, American Gothic with French Surrealism. Burma Shave is one of my favorites. The young male stranger drives into town and picks up a young female, both dissatisfied with their lot in life. In the middle of the song Waits paints a perfect moment between them, and it feels as if it's stolen from my youth:
"...And with her knees upon the glove compartment
She took out her barettes,
And her hair spilled out like root beer
And she popped her gum and arched her back..."

As I'm standing in the shower
singing Opera and such
pondering the possibility
that I pulled the pud too much
there's a scent that fills the air...
is it a flatus? just a touch
and it makes me think of you.
Oh, of course, I could have chosen "Enjoy the silence" by Depeche Mode, or "Midlife Crisis" or "A small victory" by FNM (see my sig for details). Or so many others...I guess I will be posting here often
Time is a good healer, but a lousy beautician.
If there's one thing you can say about mankind, there's nothing kind about man
(Tom Waits - Misery Is The River Of The World)
She said she'd never seen someone so lost, I said I'd never felt so found
(The Good Life - Album Of The Year)
How to shine like California when your heart feels like Detroit
(Woodface - White Light To You)

A Salty Dog by Procol Harum. Cinematic.
Regrets by Anthony Phillips. Reminds me of someone I used to be.
Frightened by New Model Army. To the point.
Nice Man Jack by John Miles. It applies to a lot of folk.

Here's one for you-
Halcyon Days, By- ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
There, but for the grace of our Gods go you and I
Down roads none dare to follow
Sands buried the graves of our former lives
Smile and wave and let them go
To rise above the mires of old days long died
Know they won't come again
Let the years roll in and drown our yesterdays
Time is a stream with no end in sight
As dark as it is cold
Flowing by as we pray for the source to run dry
That we may never grow old
We long to rest our tired bones by our fires
And drink to the days
Let the years roll in and drown our yesterdays
Born on our knees we all long
For a fawn to sooth and calm
And with our arrows bring her down
Here, let me rest in your loft for a while
Before I have to walk home
Through the streets bathed in the light
Of a thousand fires
Of a cold and angry world
In time we'll reconcile with old days long died
Know they won't come again
Let the years roll in, drown our yesterdays

......... This. About a beautiful man that never gave up on me.
The Living Years, Mike and the Mechanics.
(full version here: http://www.lyricstim...ars-lyrics.html )
Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got
You say you just don’t see it
He says it’s perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts
So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don’t give up, and don’t give in
You may just be o.k.
I wasn’t there that morning
When my father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo
In my baby’s new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye
"...when I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse... I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown. The dream is gone..."
"“My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog thinks I am.”"

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
Roman Cavalry choirs are singin'
Be my mirror, my sword, my shield
My mission Aries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know St Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world.

I'm driving black on black
Just got my license back
I got this feeling in my veins this train is coming off the track
I'll ask polite if the devil needs a ride
Because the angel on my right ain't hanging out with me tonight
I'm driving past your house while you were sneaking out
I got the car door opened up so you can jump in on the run
Your mom don't know that you were missing
She'd be p**sed if she could see the parts of you that I've been kissing
Screamin'
[CHORUS]
No, we're never gonna quit
Ain't nothing wrong with it
Just acting like we're animals
No, no matter where we go
'Cause everybody knows
We're just a couple of animals
So come on baby, get in
Get in, just get in
Check out the trouble we're in
You're beside me on the seat
Got your hand between my knees
And you control how fast we go by just how hard you wanna squeeze
It's hard to steer when you're breathing in my ear
But I got both hands on the wheel while you got both hands on my gears
By now, no doubt that we were heading south
I guess nobody ever taught her not to speak with a full mouth
'Cause this was it, like flicking on a switch
It felt so good I almost drove into the ditch
I'm screamin'
[CHORUS]
So come on baby, get in
Get in, just get in
Look at the trouble we're in
We were parked out by the tracks
We're sitting in the back
And we just started getting busy
When she whispered 'what was that?'
The wind, I think 'cause no one else knows where we are
And that was when she started screamin'
'That's my dad outside the car!'
Oh please, the keys, they're not in the ignition
Must have wound up on the floor while
we were switching our positions
I guess they knew that she was missing
As I tried to tell her dad it was her mouth that I was kissing
Screamin'
[CHORUS]
So come on baby, get in
We're just a couple of animals
Get in, just get in
Ain't nothing wrong with it
Check out the trouble we're in
Get in, just get in
"...when I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse... I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it now. The child is grown. The dream is gone..."

Don't Give Up
in this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose
don't give up
'cos you have friends
don't give up
you're not beaten yet
don't give up
I know you can make it good
though I saw it all around
never thought I could be affected
thought that we'd be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn
drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up
we don't need much of anything
don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
where we belong
rest your head
you worry too much
it's going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don't give up
please don't give up
'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river's flowing
that river's flowing
moved on to another town
tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
so many men no-one needs
don't give up
'cause you have friends
don't give up
you're not the only one
don't give up
no reason to be ashamed
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up now
we're proud of who you are
don't give up
you know it's never been easy
don't give up
'cause I believe there's the a place
there's a place where we belong
A trully love song!
Is It Ok If I Call You Mine
is it ok if i call u mine?
just for a time
and i will be just fine
if i know that you know
that i'm wanting, needing your love, oh
if i ask of you, is it alright?
if i ask you to hold me tight
through a cold dark night,
and i need to let you know
that im needing you love,oh
and what im trying to say isn't really new...
it's just the things that happen to me
when im reminded of you
like when i hear your name
or see a place that you've been
or see a picture of your grin
or pass a house that you've been in
one time or another
it sets of something in me
i cant explain
oh, i cant wait to see you again
oh babe i love your love, oh
Speaking of Kansas: The Wall
I'm woven in a fantasy, I can't believe the things I see
The path that I have chosen now has led me to a wall
And with each passing day I feel a little more like something dear was lost
It rises now before me, a dark and silent barrier between
All I am and all that I would ever want to be
It's just a travesty, towering, marking off the boundaries my spirit would
erase
To pass beyond is what I seek, I fear that I may be too weak
And those are few who've seen it through to glimplse the other side
The promised land is waiting like a maiden that is soon to be a bride
The moment is a masterpiece, the weight of indecision's in the air
It's standing there, the symbol and the sum of all that's me
It's just a travesty, towering, blocking out the light and blinding me
I want to see
Gold and diamonds cast a spell, it's not for me to know it well
The riches that I seek are waiting on the other side
There's more that I can measure in the treasure of the love that I can find
And though it's always been with me
I must tear down the wall let it be
All I am, and all that I was ever meant to be, in harmony
Shining true and smiling back at all who wait to cross
There is no loss

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.
Kind woman, I give you my all, Kind woman, nothing more.
Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of loves lost in the days gone by.
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,
together we shall go until we die. My, my, my.
An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look... see.
And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles,
Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one.
Happiness, no more be sad, happiness....I'm glad.
If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.
Father & SonFather
It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you've got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.
Son
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
It's always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
if you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them you know not me.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
The Way We WereMemories
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-color memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
(Yesterday) for the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me how many of you would live your lives again
I would too
You girls?
Memories
May be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
And so it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember
The way we were
The way we were

Why don't you get back into bed
Reasons to be cheerful part 3
1 2 3
Summer, Buddy Holly, the working folly
Good golly Miss Molly and boats
Hammersmith Palais, the Bolshoi Ballet
Jump back in the alley and nanny goats
18-wheeler Scammels, Domenecker camels
All other mammals plus equal votes
Seeing Piccadilly, Fanny Smith and Willy
Being rather silly, and porridge oats
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome, we can spare it - yellow socks
Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty
Going on 40 - no electric shocks
The juice of the carrot, the smile of the parrot
A little drop of claret - anything that rocks
Elvis and Scotty, days when I ain't spotty,
Sitting on the potty - curing smallpox
Reasons to be cheerful part 3
1 2 3
Reasons to be cheerful part 3
Health service glasses
Gigolos and brasses
round or skinny bottoms
Take your mum to paris
lighting up the chalice
wee willy harris
Bantu Stephen Biko, listening to Rico
Harpo, Groucho, Chico
Cheddar cheese and pickle, the Vincent motorsickle
Slap and tickle
Woody Allen, Dali, Dimitri and Pasquale
balabalabala and Volare
Something nice to study, phoning up a buddy
Being in my nuddy
Saying hokey-dokey, singalonga Smokey
Coming out of chokey
John Coltrane's soprano, Adi Celentano
Bonar Colleano
Reasons to be cheerful part 3

Yes yes
dear dear
perhaps next year
or maybe even never

Music connects people through the unspoken appreciation of something that sounds right. Something that taps into the deepest corners of your soul, making you feel alive. When someone else gets it too and you know they do, it feels beautiful.

It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.
I've got a cloak it's a bit of a joke.
There's a tear up the front. It's red and black.
I've had it for months.
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.
I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house.
I don't know why I call him Gerald.
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.
I've got a clan of gingerbread men.
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men.
Take a couple if you wish. They're on the dish.
You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.
I know a room full of musical tunes.
Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork.
Let's go into the other room and make them work.
Thanks for that, Syd.

And you feel
that they were killed by time and absence.
But your train ticket sold return.
They are those little things, which left us a time of roses
in the corner, on paper or in a drawer.
Like a thief lurking behind you the door...
I have so at their mercy as dead leaves that the wind drag there or here, sad smiling at us
and make us cry when nobody is looking.
Lucia -Joan Manuel Serrat
Fly Song for you, Lucia, the most beautiful love story that I had and I will.
It is a love letter that was painted with the wind in my voice anywhere to any mailbox.
There is nothing more beautiful than I've ever had. Nothing loved rather than what I lost.
Forgive me if I look in the sand today, a full moon that scraped the sea ... If ever I was a bird of passage, I forgot pa 'nest in your arms. If ever I was beautiful and I was good was wrapped around your neck and your breasts. If I was ever wise in love, I learned from your lips singers. If I ever loved, if I ever loved after loved, it was for your love, Lucia, Lucia ...
Your memories are becoming increasingly sweet, oblivion was only half, and your shadow still lies on my bed with the dark
between my pillow and my solitude.

As for my favourites, there are just too many really. Absolutely love:
Fleetwood Mac - Dreams
Now here you go again
You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should
Play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost...
And what you had...
And what you lost
(Oooooh)
Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say, women...they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know
Now here I go again, I see, the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It's only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and...
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness...
Like a heartbeat drives you mad...
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost...
What you had...
Ooh, what you lost
Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know
You will know
Oh, oh, oh you'll know
The Verve - Gravity Grave
Get Back, get back again and again
I've been here since I can remember when
My life is a boat, being blown by you
With nothing ahead, just the deepest blue...
To me you're like a setting sun
You rise then you're gone
To me you're like a setting sun
You rise then you're gone
Come back, come back again and again,
I've been here since I can remember when
The world just spins whilst mine stands still
Nothing's changed in your gravity grave
To me you're like a setting sun
You rise then you're gone
To me you're like a setting sun
You shine then you're gone
To me you're like a setting sun
You shine then you're gone
To me you're like a setting sun
You shine then you're gone
Go down on your light
So bright it burns my eyes
Sounds like a perfect way
To end my life
To me you're like a setting sun...
To me you're like a setting sun...

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the hell is the ceiling?
I think animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

It is a lovely song. Although I would need to confirm this, I do believe Charlie Chaplin wrote it. Still, you can't go wrong with Nat King Cole singing it.

Todo concluye al fin
nada puede escapar
todo tiene un final
todo termina
tengo que comprender
no es eterna la vida
el llanto en la risa
allĂ termina.
CreĂa que el amor
no tenia medidas
o dejas de querer
tal vez otra mujer.
Y olvidé aquello
que una vez pensaba
que nunca acabarĂa
nunca acabarĂa
pero sin embargo terminĂł.
Todo me demuestra
que al final de cuentas
termino cada dĂa
empiezo cada dĂa
creyendo en mañana
fracaso hoy.
No puedo yo entender
si es asi la verdad
de que vale ganar
si despues perdere
inĂştil es pelear
no puedo detenerlo
lo que hoy empecé
no sera eterno.
CreĂa que el amor
no tenia medida
o dejas de querer
tal vez otra mujer.
Olvide aquello
que una vez pensaba
que nunca acabarĂa
nunca acabarĂa
pero sin embargo terminĂł.
Todo me demuestra
que al final de cuentas
termino cada dĂa
empiezo cada dĂa
creyendo en mañana
fracaso hoy.
Cuanta verdad
hay en vivir
solamente
el momento
en que estas
si el presente...
el presente y nada mas.
"Present"
Everything will end
nothing can escape
everything has an end
all ends
I must understand life is not eternal
in tears or into laughter stops there.
I believed love had no measure
You stop loving or maybe want to let another woman.
And I forgot what once thought would never end
but never yet finished.
Everything shows me that in the end
I finish each day I start each day
believing in tomorow I fail today.
I can not understand if the truth is well worth winning
if it is useless to fight for win if later I´ll loose
I can not stop
what I started today will not be eternal.
I believed love had no measure
You stop loving or maybe want to let another woman.
How much truth is there to live only the present ... the present and nothing more.

Thanks for that, Syd.
love it!...from?

Thanks...
I like these lyrics...
"11 O'Clock Tick Tock"
It's cold outside, it gets so hot in here
The boys and girls collide to the music in my ear
I hear the children crying and I know it's time to go
I hear the children crying, take me home
A painted face and I know we haven't long
We thought that we had the answers, it was the questions we had wrong
I hear the children crying and I know it's time to go
I hear the children crying, take me home
Sad song sad song

Arrested on charges of unemployment
He was sittin’ in the witness stand
The judge's wife called up the district attorney
To say "Free that brown eyed man.
If you want your job you'd better free that brown eyed man.”
Flying across the desert in the TWA
I saw a woman walking across the sand
She been walking 30 miles en route to Bombay
To meet a Brown eyed handsome man
Her destination was a Brown eyed handsome man.
Way back in history 3000 years
Back ever since the world began
There's been a whole lotta’ good women shed a tear
For a brown eyed handsome man
A lot of trouble for a brown eyed handsome man.
Beautiful daughter couldn't make up her mind
Between a doctor and a lawyer man
The mother told the daughter "Go out and find
Yourself a brown eyed handsome man.
That's what your daddy was, a brown eyed handsome man.”
Milo of Venus was a beautiful lass
She had the world in the palm of her hand
But she lost both her arms in a wrestling match
To get a brown eyed handsome man
She fought and won herself a brown eyed handsome man.
Two, three, the count with nobody on
He hit a high fly into the stand
Round the third he was headed for home
He was a brown eyed handsome man.
That won the game he was a brown eyed handsome man

For Absent Friends
Sunday at six when they close both the gates
A widowed pair, still sitting there
Wonder if they're late for church
And it's cold so they fasten their coats
And cross the grass, they're always last
Passing by the padlocked swings
The roundabout still turning
Ahead they see a small girl
On her way home with a pram
Inside the archway
The priest greets them with a courteous nod
He's close to God
Looking back at days of four instead of two
Years seem so few
Heads bent in prayer
For friends not there
Leaving twopence on the plate
They hurry down the path and through the gate
And wait to board the bus
That ambles down the street

Help
