Read today JV has a seat fitting at SGP which brought a nice smile to my face. Say what you want about him, but he is a former WC. Having 5 on the grid next year would be epic. And in 2011 when Kimi returns, 6 on the grid even more exciting. Do I think he can win another WDC? Not a chance. Another race? No way. Yet that does nothing to dull the excitement I feel if he does indeed get to lineup on the grid this year. Go JV!

PS. For all the JV and Kimi haters who will inevitably post their dissings of both, how about this time instead of just saying he's a w#nker, and this guy sux, to explain a little behind why you feel that way.

I don't think Kimi will return.

As for JV, he's crap! :D No seriously I liked him when he was on form. BUT think his results speak volumes. He tried to do a Schui in Honda/BAR but just didn't pull it off.

Oh btw if he does return to Stefan GP I'm selling front row seats in my office for Steph's naked walk through London (see post: http://www.totalf1.c...ost__p__308432) :D

He came back once already and was too slow. He's been out of it for even longer and I have no reason to think anything other than he will still be slow.

His singing sucks and he can't play the guitar very well.

He mad hevy weather of the one championship he did win.

His move to BAR was ill considered and his best friend Craig Pollock is a fool.

He never was and never will be a patch on Michael Schumacher.

He has a nonsensical following led by the the blind, ill informed and over sympathetic.

His overalls don't fit.

His Dad was great, he isn't.

His glasses look stupid.

He got dumped by Danni Minogue.

Can we have threads about current, committed and useful drivers who aren't over payed or washed up?

I don't hate Kimi although I think there are better drivers on the grid but I hate JV! Why, cos he's an arrogant prick who thinks everyone should bow down to him cos he won A WDC! Take 2003 for example @ BAR, he kept raving on that he didn't respect Button cos he's an unworthy driver & Button danced around him that year & I hope he does it again this year if SGP get on the grid, & that's a darn big IF!

For left-handed Hendrix loving, Jack Daniels drinking Stephanie's opinion on this, see what Stephen wrote. And to add as Danny has mentioned... Button delivered the goods while JV was shouting his gob off. That was so sweet!

Although Craig Pollock is a Tool. Fool's too easy.

Okay then, not really in recent times. Times have changed. JV needs a reality check, as does Kimi for that matter.

Any great driver can make a successful return after a lengthy sabbatical, you don't have to be Schumacher. It's just that in JV's case, it really would help his hopeless cause if he was Schumacher.

I get you're point, but mine was that not in recent times has a driver been able to leave the sport and make a successful come back a few years later. Heck, it isn't even clear if Schumi can pull that off in 2010.

That's more to do with the significance of the talent. Back in the day, Prost and Lauda were stand out talents. The only one of recent times is, as you say, Michael. The field is closer theses days, in terms of driver ability, I believe.

Kimi Raikkonen: It is the same thing that I said before. I have no interest in driving for a bad team next year. If I race here, I always try to finish as high as I can. I don't need anything to motivate me. If I drive, I drive to do my best and that is it.

In a nutshell, Chris says it all. The J.V. who came into the sport in no way resembled the shell of a driver who left... and then reappeared briefly with Renault and BMW-Sauber and looked like a ghost of a shell of a driver. Let's hope it never gets past a seat fitting. As for Kimi, 2011 is far away right now.

...and should the worst happen I'll need a firm date from someone so I can book my flight into Heathrow. Wouldn't miss our lovely Stephy for the world.

The price we pay for having lesser teams on the grid is having lesser drivers on the grid. Still, at least it will, perhaps, add a little colour to F1.

Prost and Lauda in particular were not very fast or adaptable.

Lauda once told the Ferrari team manager that he won races and championships by not being one of the fast ones.
That's because back then racecraft (meaning technical feel and know-how, setup skills, saving tires-fuel-engine, avoiding the big one at Brands/Monaco/O-ring, bringing-the-car-home/consistency ) was way way more important the driving skill/sheer speed.

Before Schumacher, Fangio considered only 2 other F1 drivers to be in the same class as him, Clark and Senna.

I think that's true, that other skills such as race-craft and set-up ability, were more important than sheer speed the further you go back. But I seriously doubt that just because those things were more important it means that Prost and Lauda weren't "fast or adaptable".

I like to think Fangio was probably right about Clark and Senna, though.

It's way overdue. Give us what you have got. And I don't think alluding to his previous sucesses is the way to do it. I want you to stick your neck out and demonstrate why you feel he is a viable proposition for any team who is remotely concerned with being sucessful and then accept that I am allowed to laugh at you if you prove to be wrong and that we forget this post ever existed if I prove to be wrong, which of course I won't be.
