Mansell Pondering Return To F1?

"""""Mansell, now aged 56, even floated the idea of a return to Formula One.
He is currently involved in the Le Mans series driving for Team LNT alongside his son Greg.
But, when asked if he might return, said: "Never say die. If there's a good Formula One seat, who knows? Why not, it would make a bit of history, wouldn't it?"""""
Tbh, the way things have been going lately I wouldnt be surprised to see him turn up for a cameo or something in the season or perhaps with a full race drive for a newbie team next year.
In my opinion, that would be just incredible to see. Apparantly he has been doing well in other racing series. So why not?!
What do people think about the possibility? Answers from your heart and also from their head please....

Sure, why not. If some designer can construct a seat large enough for old Nigel, and then fit it inside of current F1 car, I will be watching.

You know, he may have been playing around but I feel there is more than just a hint of seriousness in that short quote. These days I wouldnt rule anything out. F1 cars are getting increasingly easier to drive and recent years have shown (barring the Hamilton phenomenom) that age and wisdom are sometimes far more valuable to a team than a young whipper-snapper without any experience at all.
If I was starting a team I would try him out for a seat, why not??

My living hero back in the sport I follow with passion in my heart and excitement in my head. What a dream. But I don't think it'll happen.
Still...fantastic awesome dream.

+1 for sure
Hell, +100 for me
Can you imagine the publicity if he came back. F1 would be bigger than the olympics. It would be huge

Mate, it'd be awesome. Knowing the british press, it'd also have a lot of negativity due to his age, etc. I know that shouldn't make a difference but harsh reality says it will.
I was on cloud 9 when they brought out GP Masters. Mansell showed he still had form then. Was it Kyalami where he was battling with Emerson Fittipaldi, the safety car came out and next thing, Red Five has left the entire field eating his dust. Class.
Now if that could translate to F1

I'd say F1 is already bigger than the Olympics, but I get what your saying.
Why bother Nige? Even if you can't find a seat, you could still jog faster than Hispania will be going!
I kid, it would be nice to see another legend return to the sport, but I doubt it will ever. I think he was pulling the leg of whoever asked him that question.

At this rate, F1 will be GP Masters with all the past champions wanting to get back into the sport.

Thanks. I wanted to open my account with something interesting.
Remember people, if he does get a seat, you read it here first!
Realistically though, if he did get a seat, I dont see any reason why, at least in quali pace, he shouldnt be hear the front. The question would be sustaining that over 60 laps.
And yeah, to the guy who mentioned it, my old Tonka truck could outpace the newbie teams as they stand (HRT etc). Expect them to improve massively though as the season goes on.

Well, I take the quote at face value, i.e. Mansell doesn't want to rule anything out and if a quick team did offer him a test he'd have a go, if he felt like it. I don't read anything into it other than that.
Personally I feel Mansell wouldn't have the pace for F1 now; I doubt he would even be able to match Badoer actually. F1 cars may be easier to drive in some respects, but they are not easy to drive at all, and in some respects are probably much harder to drive consistently on the limit than in previous decades/era's.

Mansell is nore than a hero to me, because of him I started watching Indycar, oh what a year that one, people started talking about his incursion on indycar saying that he did good in the fisrt race because it was a road course but he will be struggling at the ovals but he did not and he went on to win the championship and became the champion of both F1 and Indycar for a week, that was amazing

Kimi Raikkonen: It is the same thing that I said before. I have no interest in driving for a bad team next year. If I race here, I always try to finish as high as I can. I don't need anything to motivate me. If I drive, I drive to do my best and that is it.
jemstride:
"I get the feeling that Alonso fans tend to heap over-praise on Alonso and bring down Kimi whenever they can, with mere theories and unjustified statements."
I just always end up disagreeing with you guys because of all the huge exaggerations, myths, theories & unjustified statements
Lewis Hamilton:
I never go with expectations, I go with a target. That is to be at the front, and the ultimate aim to win, which is the mentality I have always gone racing with.
You've got to be on the limit all the time - and I love that, because that's how I love to race.

Music connects people through the unspoken appreciation of something that sounds right. Something that taps into the deepest corners of your soul, making you feel alive. When someone else gets it too and you know they do, it feels beautiful.

The Last Of The Late Brakers himself - Red Five. My absolute all-time favourite driver. He had more raw speed than any other driver of the past 50 years. Winning the WDC and INDY in consecutive years is testament to that. He is probably 10 kilos too heavy for a modern F1 car but I saw him at Monaco last year in he looks in great shape physically. All thing are possible in Bernie's Flying Circus, Steph.

Ah yes. His late breaking. He was another that at times used to heel-toe the pedals.
Nigel appealed to me so much even at such a young age because of his never give up attitude. He kept on at it, he never said oh forget this, he always kept the dream alive. You have these football stars as role models for kids today. They lie, cheat, drugs. I had the fortunate good grace to have Nigel as a role model, an inspiration and proof that if you try, your dreams will come true. Prime example. When he pushed his car over the line in baking hot heat, then collapsed. Charging around the outside of Prost at the Parabolica. Giving Senna a ride back to the pits. Stuff like that. A true hero, and a living legend. In my house, I have that photo of Senna, Prost, Mansell and Piquet sitting on a pit wall in a large frame, hanging on my door. Four true legends. Only one true hero, and thats our Nige.
Sorry. I'm getting all nostalgic.

Sean and Steph have summed up my love of Mansell. I would add that I've seen his brake/throttle telemetry and it's wild. It's all steep peaks and valleys. When he wasn't full on the brake he was full on the throttle. Beautiful.
